A seaside playground in the Caribbean, Rincon was a small agricultural and fishing town until it hosted the 1968 World Surfing Championship.
Kick off your visit on the 4th (Thu): enjoy the sea views from Faro Punta Higueras. For sixty years until 2003, most of the Isla de Vieques was closed off to the public, with the US Navy using the island's beaches and surrounding waters for drills and testing of new military machinery, such as bombs.
Eschew the tourist crowds and head to Caracas Beach and Media Luna Beach. Escape the urban bustle at La Chiva and Secret Beach (Pata Prieta). And it doesn't end there: kick back and relax at Navio Beach, take a leisurely stroll along Malecon, add some adventure to your tour with a kayaking and canoeing tour, and tour the pleasant surroundings at Vieques National Wildlife Refuge.
