Vieux-Habitants is a commune on Guadeloupe, a French overseas department in the Caribbean. Change things up with these side-trips from Vieux-Habitants: Deshaies (Jardin Botanique de Deshaies & Plage de Grande Anse), La Soufriere Volcano (in Saint-Claude) and Parc des Mamelles, le Zoo de Guadeloupe (in Bouillante). In a lush mountain landscape that remains one of the Caribbean's wildest areas, Parc National encompasses nearly 30,000 ha (74,000 ac) of rainforests intersected by hiking trails.
Kick off your visit on the 10th (Mon): take in the dramatic scenery at Cascade aux Ecrevisses and then identify plant and animal life at Wildlife Areas. On the 11th (Tue), you'll have a packed day of sightseeing: admire all the interesting features of Route de la Traversee, stop by Plantation Grand Cafe, and then admire the sheer force of Carbet Falls (Les Chutes du Carbet).
