Kagoshima sits across the bay from Sakurajima, an active volcano that serves as a symbol of the city and works its way into many aspects of life here.
Change things up with a short trip to Mt. Kaimondake in Ibusuki (about 1h 40 min away). Next up on the itinerary: make a trip to Tenmonkan, stop by Yumeria, admire the landmark architecture of Kagoshima Prefectural Government Commemoration Hall, and contemplate in the serene atmosphere at Myoken Shrine.
