Nimes

— 6 nights

French Rome

Nîmes has a rich history dating back to the Roman Empire, with a stunning coliseum that is second only to Rome's.
Get out of town with these interesting Nimes side-trips: Avignon (Pont d'Avignon, Palais des Papes, &more), Roman Theatre of Orange (in Orange) and Distillerie A. Blachere (in Chateauneuf-du-Pape). There's much more to do: pause for some photo ops at La Maison Carree, take in the spiritual surroundings of Abbaye Notre-Dame de Senanque, get outside with Escattes Aventure, and hike along Le Sentier des Ocres.

To find where to stay, ratings, traveler tips, and other tourist information, use the Nimes holiday builder website.

If you are flying in from Spain, the closest major aiports are Nîmes-Arles-Camargue Airport, Montpellier-Méditerranée Airport, Marseille Provence Airport and Béziers-Vias Airport. In July, daily temperatures in Nimes can reach 35°C, while at night they dip to 22°C. Finish your sightseeing early on the 11th (Sat) to allow enough time to travel back home.
