Regarded as an art and history city, Nantes is called the Venice of the West.

Explore Nantes' surroundings by going to La Rochelle (Aquarium La Rochelle & Vieux Port). There's still lots to do: explore the historical opulence of Chateau des Ducs de Bretagne and take in the spiritual surroundings of Cathedrale de Saint-Pierre et Saint-Paul.

Venice, Italy to Nantes is an approximately 5-hour flight. You can also drive; or take a train. Plan for slightly colder temperatures traveling from Venice in August, with highs in Nantes at 29°C and lows at 15°C. Finish your sightseeing early on the 26th (Mon) so you can drive to Tours.

Famous for its original medieval district, Tours is famous for its cafes that serve regional wines and interesting architectural bridges crossing the river Loire.

Venture out of the city with trips to Chateau de Chambord (in Chambord), Amboise (Chateau Royal d'Amboise & Le Chateau du Clos Luce - Parc Leonardo da Vinci) and Chateau de Chenonceau (in Chenonceaux). It doesn't end there: admire the striking features of Cathedrale Saint-Gatien and admire the natural beauty at Chateau de Villandry.

You can drive from Nantes to Tours in 2.5 hours. Alternatively, you can take a train. In August, daytime highs in Tours are 29°C, while nighttime lows are 17°C. On the 30th (Fri), you're off to home.
