Aptly nicknamed the Eternal City, Rome is the birthplace of the Roman Empire, one of the world's greatest civilizations ever.
Kick off your visit on the 14th (Wed): admire the local landmark of Trevi Fountain, pause for some serene contemplation at Pantheon, pause for some serene contemplation at Santa Maria in Trastevere, then contemplate the long history of Colosseum, and finally explore the ancient world of Palatine Hill. On your second day here, get to know the fascinating history of Piazza Navona, take in the spiritual surroundings of Vatican Museums, and then make a trip to St. Peter's Basilica.
