The largest city on the island, Fukuoka formed through the merger of two former cities that had grown up either side of the Naka River.
On the 16th (Mon), take in the pleasant sights at Ohori Park, enjoy breathtaking views from Fukuoka Tower, thentake in the spiritual surroundings of Dazaifu Tenman-gu, thencontemplate in the serene atmosphere at Kushida Shrine, and finally browse the different shops at Tenjin Underground Shopping Center. On your second day here, admire the natural beauty at Uminonakamichi Seaside Park, step off the mainland to explore Nokonoshima Island, and then don't miss a visit to Yatai.

A popular destination for Japanese tourists, Kumage-gun Yakushima-cho is a true paradise for nature lovers, with over 1,900 species and subspecies of plants.
On the 18th (Wed), trek along Yakusugi Land. Get ready for a full day of sightseeing on the next day: make a trip to Wilson Stump and then explore the stunning scenery at Shiratani Unsuikyo Valley.

Traveling by flight from Fukuoka to Yakushima-cho takes 4 hours. Alternatively, you can do a combination of train and ferry; or do a combination of car and ferry. Kick off your visit on the 20th (Fri): enjoy breathtaking views from Shiroyama Observatory and then steep yourself in history at Sengan-en. On the next day, pause for some photo ops at Tomoatsu Godai Statue and then get impressive views of Sakurajima.

Traveling from Yakushima-cho in April, you can expect nighttime temperatures to be slightly colder in Kagoshima, with lows of °C.
