If you could only choose one icon to represent Great Britain, Big Ben would have to merit strong consideration. The name commonly describes the clock tower at the north end of the Palace of Westminster in London, but the title originally went to the bell inside the tower. The official name of the tower is Elizabeth Tower. UK residents can take a tour of the tower, going all the way to the top for spectacular views of London. If you're a foreign visitor, you'll have to be content with snapping photos from the ground. The clock tower is photogenic at any time of day, but even more so when it's lit up at dusk. This is a lovely park and has an exercise area, tennis courts, bowling, a cafe and a lovely lake. It also has the Valentines museum and lovely gardens. There is so much to do for everyone of all ages. Lake, Grounds, Cafe, Play Equipment. Walk, run and enjoy. Lots of wildlife, feed Squirrels if careful. Family friendly lots to enjoy.
Big Ben is the nickname for the Great Bell at the north end of the Palace of Westminster in London. It finished construction in 1589 and at the time was the largest and most accurate 4 faced chiming click in the world. The tower has five bells. Big Ben being the largest as it weighs over 13 tons. Due to refurbishing work that started in 2016, tours of Big Ben have been suspended until 2021. But put it in your dairy as it is definitely well worth a visit when it reopens.
