Founded in 1857, Science Museum is one of the city’s major attractions, with nearly three million visitors each year. The museum holds an impressive collection of over 300,000 items, including the first jet engine, the oldest surviving steam locomotive, and the first prototype of the famous Clock of the Long Now, a mechanical clock designed to keep time for over 10,000 years. See hundreds of interactive exhibits, or visit the IMAX 3-D movie theater, which screens science and nature documentaries. Visit the Exploring Space gallery to see the story of human space exploration or time your trip for a "Science Night," a regular all-night special event allowing guests to spend the night inside the galleries, sleeping among the exhibits. As this museum was beside the Natural History Museum we felt that it was worth doing. Moon sections are good. But we didn't get to do the Wonderlab section as we didn't have time. You could spend a lo... more »
The Science Museum is amazing. So much to see and do here and it's all free. You do have to pay for simulator rides if you choose to do them. It's usually very busy during school holidays but a lot quieter outside of those dates. Bonus is that it is next door to the Natural History museum so you could visit them both in the same day. That said, there is enough to see and do in both to keep you busy for a day in each.
I've always loved the Science Museum ever since I was a kid. Now I get to enjoy bringing my own children here. There's a huge amount to see and do, even for younger children down in the basement level. We probably go 2-3 times per year and always have a good time. It's nice that Hyde Park is close by too.
