William Tyndale was an English scholar who became a leading figure in the Protestant Reformation in the years leading up to his execution. He is well known for his translation of the Bible into English. -- Wikipedia
This statue stands in tribute to William Tyndale, the 15th century scholar best known for his translation of the Bible into English from Greek and Hebrew. This work and legacy can be felt in the King James Bible and Matthew Bible, both of which drew heavily from his work. The statue depicts William Tyndale standing, in his doctor's robes. In his right hand rests on a copy of the New Testament laying on a primitive printing press. In his left hand is a manuscript and at his feet are books and a scroll in reference to his scholarly leanings. The only odd thing about the statue is that I can find no reference or connection for William Tyndale in this area of London. It's a nice statue nevertheless.
