The largest and oldest occupied castle in the world, Windsor Castle has been a home to British monarchs since Henry I began using it in the 11th century. The focal point of your visit should be the staterooms. They date to the late 17th century, when Charles II set out to make the castle as lavish as Versailles. George IV further enhanced these rooms during his reign in the 1820s, and today you'll see how they reflect his extravagant taste. Make sure you see Queen Mary's dollhouse, which was built to a 1:12 scale and is the largest and perhaps most richly appointed dollhouse in the world. St. George's Chapel's fine gothic architecture and grand stone-fan vaulting make it a highlight of the tour. Before you start your visit, pick up a free audio guide in the courtyard. Table services, paintings, tapestries, frescoes, wonderful rooms. It is worth going from London by train and spending the whole day between castle and visit to the village, very picturesque and full of shops and clubs If you are a family, with online booking you save.
This is a really lovely and beautiful place to visit and the rooms on the inside are amazing. The view from the top of the tower is wonderful. I will definitely go back there again
We visited on Saturday. Lovely castle so much to see. The circus was excellent. We had a great time. What shocked us the most was when her majesty the queen called us from a window in for tea.
