Erected on the spot from which the legendary Vietnamese leader proclaimed the country's independence, Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum serves as the final resting place of the leader's mummified body. Although the beloved "Uncle Ho" wished to be cremated, his followers decided to put his embalmed remains in a glass case. Today, his pale body lies exposed to the views of devoted pilgrims and curious tourists moving slowly in endless rows during most of the year--except for a period when it gets sent to Russia for conservation. The building--inspired by the Lenin's mausoleum in Moscow--was erected in the early 1970s. Inquire about proper etiquette before you enter--keep your hands out of your pockets, do not hold up the line, and don't attempt to take photographs. Ho Chi Minh is a humble but extraordinary, hugely popular and most respected leader of the nation. This feels exactly like a pilgrimage. A must visit place. more »
One of the tourist attraction in Hanoi. The place is magnificent. I did not visit inside because it was already noon (closed by 11 am). The next morning we saw the lines of people wanting to get there, my tour guide said it takes 2 hours in line to get inside. We took nice pictures just outside
Difficult to get into. Queue is very long and a lot of restrictions: no water, no chewing gum, don't keep hands at pockets. Quite cold into mausoleum. However, it had strong impression. Uncle Ho looks exactly as is depicted at every banknote. Entrance is free of charge. You have to pay only if you want to go to palace. Visiting mausoleum is free of charge.
