Folklore Museum, Bruges

Housed inside a row of 17th-century single-room houses, Folklore Museum showcases everyday life in 19th- and 20th-century Bruges. Inside the houses you walk through a classroom, pharmacy, millinery, grocery, and bedroom. Each space is decorated with pieces collected from all over the city in an attempt to recreate authentic environments. In good weather, you can play traditional folk games on one of the terraces and in the internal garden. Every room is full of artifacts, such as hand-carved pipes and tobacco paraphernalia, so take your time investigating. Another highlight is the lace exhibit in the attic. Purchase tickets upon arrival and begin your self-guided tour. If the attraction is crowded, you may have to shuffle through with a group along designated pathways through the museum's interior, but you can use any delay as an opportunity to photograph favorite displays.
