Dedicated to studying and displaying the work of Rene Magritte, Magritte Museum combines education with exhibits. The collection is one of the largest and most diverse of Magritte's work and took many years, and many donations, to collect. Magritte's paintings, drawings, posters, and advertising work fill the walls with surreal images. These artworks are arranged by period on three floors spanning from 1898 to 1967 and Magritte's later "Enchanted Domain" periods. Your tour ends in a cinema that screens both films inspired by Magritte's work and films he enjoyed. Book tickets online or purchase them when you arrive, but be aware that with a reserved ticket you use the Place Royale entrance, whereas if you are purchasing a ticket, enter from the Rue de la Régence. Consider purchasing a combination ticket that includes all the Royal Museums of Fine Arts of Belgium. Magritte Museum reviews
Excellent presentation about an unusual artist. Do note that some of the highlights of his oeuvre are not on display but what is here is a deep collection showcasing the progression of his style...

This was the biggest disappointment of my life. I see that most of the people leaving good reviews say that Magritte is their favorite artist - that doesn’t mean this museum is good. The curators made absolutely no effort to organize or make Magritte’s work understandable. Chronological order (this is not even true to the last room), very short biography at the beginning and that’s it, no concept whatsoever. They have to exhibit a lot of photographs, letters, and other texts that are somehow related to the artist because there are not many really famous or recognizable pieces of his work. This wouldn’t be a problem at all if they were explained or at least translated to English. A lot of the times they don’t even bother to translate the titles, there’s just three almost identical French labels instead! A good curator can make an enjoyable museum experience out of the smallest, most insignificant collections of art - a very good example is the Dalí Paris. Here, the interiors are outdated, the lighting is awful, there are reflections and glares on all the paintings but the lack of effort is the most annoying. Their only luck is that Magritte is such an interesting artist that almost anyone can enjoy his works just by looking at them. If you want a deeper understanding of his motivations, (Belgian) surrealism, or even his life, THIS IS NOT THE PLACE.
Great exhibition of Magritte’s work. Like mentioned by others, it would have been nice to have had explanations next to the pieces of art but thankfully it’s easy to enjoy Magritte’s work without the deeper meaning. I also agree that the lighting needs to be improved, especially on darker pieces of work. Really detracted at times. Overall a good exhibition but improvements could be made.
