A dramatic 50 m (160 ft) drop located in the heart of Jasper National Park, Maligne Canyon offers memorable views and diverse flora and fauna. Trickling waterfalls, nesting ravens and black swifts, underground stream outlets, and ancient fossils are all hidden amongst the verdant beauty. You can discover it all by walking along a series of trails and traversing four impressive bridges. As you hike through the unspoilt landscape, notice the unusual rock formations, carved out of the Palliser formation, a layer of limestone deposited by plankton some 365 million years ago. A visit to Maligne Canyon represents just the start of the adventure when you use our Jasper National Park trip itinerary site to plot your vacation.

Wow ! We were lucky to have booked a tour with a guide and this was very educational. ( Other people , who didn’t have a guide were sneakily listening in!) well worth seeing , so deep and beautiful !

Maligne canyon has beautiful views walking beside the gorge edge and going across the bridges. Leave lots of time for the hike as you can spend many hours there. We did the hike down on the gorge...

I enjoyed the upper bridge walk from the top. Bridges one and two are near the top with the tea house. Loved the info Sir Arthur Conan Doyle had spent time at this lodge. There are a number of areas still icy in spring around Easter 2022. We were able to move through the top section without much trouble but felt that Ice cleats would be needed to go further down. Parking was free and a number of people are frequenting the area

Very nice hike and canyon. Take a short trail or long one. Be prepared.. return is all up hill! 4 stars only because the trail signage was poor. It's a beautiful place!
