The heart of old Prague, Staromestske namesti is one of Europe's largest public spaces. The site of the city's main marketplace for nearly a thousand years, the old square features a Gothic cathedral and a Baroque church, as well as a 600-year-old astronomical clock, one of the world's oldest. Tourists and buskers pack around the square's central statue of religious reformer Jan Hus, creating a modern urban atmosphere in the middle of Prague's oldest quarter. The square also includes a memorial to the 27 Protestant leaders beheaded here in 1620. Take a guided tour of the square's landmark churches, and see an ingenious piece of equipment come to life by standing in front of the astronomical clock right on the hour. A visit to Staromestske namesti represents just the start of the adventure when you use our Prague online vacation maker to plot your vacation.

If you haven't been to this square have you been to Prague at all? This is definitely a must go/must see place in Prague and nobody should avoid it. It does get quite crowded but it is the best.

Definitely one of the best squares I've ever visited in my whole life. A living work of art. It's full of history and culture from different ages and different people. I would recommend hiring a guide to explore everything about the square, because it's full of unexpected things. Also the typical food that you can buy there is pretty good but a little bit expensive....

One of my favorite places in Prague! The city is small itself so this area is usually walkable from most places and is at a great location with lots of great bars and restaurants nearby. I highly recommend visiting at night during holidays especially around Christmas when the Christmas market is open and the Christmas decorations are up. Unfortunately when we visited the Christmas market was closed due to give but the Christmas tree was still kept around.
