Create an itinerary including The Little Mermaid
Despite its small size, The Little Mermaid serves as one of the city's major symbols. Based on the well-known fairy tale by Hans Christian Andersen, this unimposing bronze mermaid is the work of sculptor Edvard Eriksen. Commissioned by Danish beer baron Carl Jacobsen in 1909, the artist modeled the mermaid's face after ballerina Ellen Price and the body after his wife's. The statue miraculously survived the destructive forces of World War II undamaged, becoming a kind of city mascot over the years. • If you visit Copenhagen then this is the symbol of town. But sculpture is smaller than my imagination.

  • This is the major attraction in Copenhagen. Not sure why. It was nice though if you can get close enough to it.

  • A very good spot to come to and take pictures, admire the landscape and even have lunch and chill near the water and appreciate the sculpture. I'd say the best time to visit is during summer. There's an ice cream truck nearby so you can fight the heat if necessary.
  • Copenhagen is a lovely city and no stay is complete without seeing the little mermaid. I was surprised by its location and size. I stayed the city centre and hailed a taxi to the site since it is a 40 minute walk. I walked back along the waterside and visited Nyhavn which was delightful and saw the cathedral. I would highly recommend.
