Called the crystal cathedral, Le Gouffre de Proumeyssac is a cavern filled with intricate crystal formations alongside breathtaking stalactites and stalagmites.

Enter the cavern via tunnel--or, for a fee, you can be lowered into it in a basket, just like the early explorers. Try to catch the dramatic light and music show that focuses on some of the amazing formations, which are nicknamed the waterfall, siren, jellyfish, and octopus. • The cave itself is amazing but the walk back through the slippery, cramped walkway was terrifying. Not for people with claustrophobia or walking difficulties.

  • 45 minute guided tour in French with headsets available in other languages. Don't go if you have mobility issues , lots of steps and one bit is going to be difficult with sticks or a wheelchair.
  • Perfect experience for a rainy day. Interesting stories, beautiful cave, friendly staff. Tour is in French with earphones available in other languages which is never quite as good but at least it’s an option. Tour took about 40 mins. We didn’t take the ‘lift’ down but still really enjoyed it. Would recommend for all ages, but a word of warning there is one short section which required stooping while waking so may not suit people who have back/neck trouble.
