  • Along one of the main shopping streets in Avignon (rue Joseph Vernet) is the Musee Calvet, located in a beautiful multi-level villa. The museum is a the traditional fine arts sort, but with a larger than usual number of statues and sculptures which are all well done and interesting to view. While we visited in December, the building would offer a cool respite for those visiting in the much warmer summer months...and, it was FREE. Unfortunately the second floor was closed so we were only able to view a portion of the exhibit (hence the 4 instead of 5 stars).
  • Definitely worth a visit - especially as a cool respite from the heat. It's an interesting and somewhat eclectic collection in a lovely building. I was particularly engaged by the Egyptian artefacts.
