The first bridge over the Garonne River at Bordeaux, Pont de Pierre was planned and designed under the orders of Napoléon Bonaparte, though its construction took place during the Bourbon Restoration between 1819 and 1822. Notice that the bridge stands on 17 arches (coincidently the same number of letters in the name Napoléon Bonaparte). White medallions cap each side in honor of the emperor, alongside the city's coat of arms (three intertwined crescents). This was the only bridge in the area until the construction of Pont Saint-Jean in 1965. This is one of Bordeaux’s most historic landmarks commissioned by Napoleon and finished after his death. It is beautiful day or night and lovely to walk across as the tide rushes in or out. The 17 arches are for the the letters in Napoleon’s full name. It’s popular with runners because the traffic is limited.

Nice stone bridge to walk along and cross the river. Easily accessible and the tram also crosses this bridge. A nice open space at the other end of the bridge with some cafes around. Ample space to walk or jog, and also vehicles crosses the bridge.
