In 1489, Chateau des Milandes was the main residence for the lords of Caumont. Today, it is best known as the former home of entertainer Josephine Baker, who restored this "Sleeping Beauty" castle in the late 1940s. Tour parts of the castle for a glimpse into Baker's intriguing life, walk through the bucolic gardens, or take in a Birds of Prey show that features some of the best fliers in the castle's falconry. • Really excellent visit. Loved the individual audio tour. The restaurant was excellent quality. The birds of prey display was one of the best we have seen. Even the toilets were clean and high quality. Heard about Josephine Baker, but great to hear more in detail about her.
  • Hidden gem of a tourist attraction in this region. Slightly more expensive than others in the area but definitely worth it. Easy to have a full day here, there are extensive grounds to walk round with aviaries for the exotic birds, the birds of prey show is definitely worth seeing and the tour of the chateau is fantastic, giving a brilliant insight into the incredible life of Josephine Baker. Audio guides available in English and very informative. Well worth a visit.
