Create an itinerary including Chateau de Fougeres
Built on a naturally protected site, Chateau de Fougeres is on a rock emerging from a swamp surrounded by a loop of the Nançon river acting as a natural moat. It has three different enclosures that were used for defensive purposes, day-to-day use during peacetime, and for the safety of the population during siege times. Visit the impressive 13 towers, and watch an entertaining live show plunging you into the fortress’s construction during the medieval period. A free booklet at the entrance helps you find your way. • My wife picked up a brochure on this chateau and we went to see it on the way to Honfluer. It was set a such a beautiful old world town. It felt like going back many, many centuries. The little shops and restaurants were a treat. We even drank our freshly made lemonade looking at the beautiful castle setting. The castle was fun walking through the open grounds and up the tower spiral staircase. It took time to walk up to the top. Some people were laughing as they tried getting up the staircase to the top. It was worth the effort. The turrets and fortress walls were an enjoyable adventure. It was a beautiful day to go back 1000 years and experience the many centuries of building and destruction that took place. We had a very pleasant side trip to this very special town and castle before heading off to our final destination of Honfluer. I definitely would recommend visiting this wonderful place!
  • Just beautiful Lots of interesting history detailed in films and writings throughout the chateau We enjoyed a picnic in the grounds Will definitely return
