Create an itinerary including Cathedrale Notre-Dame
As a national monument forming the highest point in the city, Cathedrale Notre-Dame still holds Roman Catholic mass. Since before the time of Charlemagne, the cathedral has been a part of the Christian pilgrimage route to Santiago de Compostela. View Romanesque architecture from the 5th century to the 15th century with an exterior façade made from white sandstone and black volcanic breccias. Climb sixty steps to get to the three orders and listen to the historical organ. Make Cathedrale Notre-Dame a centerpiece of your Le Puy-en-Velay vacation itinerary, and find what else is worth visiting using our Le Puy-en-Velay trip itinerary maker.

  • A place of pilgramage. All roads lead to the cathedral. Over 144 cobble stone steps to the top. Not for the faint of heart. Opens up to the altar of the cathedral. Statues of Joan of Arc and Louie XIV. The black virgin Mary. The original was burned during the french revolution.
  • Beautiful cathedral, well worth a visit. For me a highlight of the place. With a special entrance in the middle of the cathedral and not at the end. Not possible or difficult for wheelchairs in my opinion.
