See exquisite miniatures and learn about movie special effects at Musee Miniature et Cinema, housed in a 15th-century architectural masterpiece. Inside the Maison des Avocats (House of Lawyers), you’ll find miniatures carved in minute detail. The museum is the brainchild of Dan Ohlmann, a cabinetmaker with a passion for detail that led to a career as one of the leading miniaturist artists in the world. Over 100 miniatures display hyper-realistic scenes of everyday life, such as a local market, a bedroom, or a salon complete with bookshelves and teacups. Continue to the second floor where you'll see the artists at work. Watch as a miniature takes shape under the steady hand of these resident artists. If you’re hungry for more magic, then don’t miss the film special-effects exhibit displayed in the other half of the historic building; the dynamic displays and reenactments reveal the trickery behind the camera. • What a great museum. The film section has objects from a wide variety of movies, from horror to Mary Poppins, and explains techniques that are used in their making. The miniatures are fascinating...

  • A really great museum and fantastic way to spend an hour or two in Lyon. The first few floors are props, costumes and other items from major films. These are all pretty interesting, but the highlight is in the top floor. A series of absolutely incredible miniature scenes painstakingly created with astounding details. I could look at them for ages, marvelling at the skill. Never seen anything like it. My photos here are all models, no more than 2 feet across.
  • Visited this place a little bit before closing and I had to fight myself to believe that it was miniature. The first floor is major film props like Harry Potter, but the top floor is the main standout, A collection of incredibly detailed miniature scenes that were meticulously built. You could be amazed at the skill for a very long time, next to nothing you've ever seen. All of the images of the sets are pressed to the window, no more than 15 cm.
