Museum of European and Mediterranean Civilisations
Enrich your understanding of European and Mediterranean civilizations at Museum of European and Mediterranean Civilisations, which takes an interdisciplinary approach to recounting society throughout the ages. The museum brings together all the disciplines of the social sciences, including anthropology, political science, sociology, history, archaeology, and art history, to examine the foundation of the Mediterranean's rich and diverse past. Displays take a comparative approach when depicting the influencing religions and bordering countries that played a major role in the development of the Mediterranean. A marvel in itself, the building that houses the museum is the work of architect Rudy Ricciotti--deliberately and openly facing the sea. Stop for a bite to eat at the restaurant on the top floor; it has a spectacular terrace with panoramic views of the bay. Using our online itinerary creator, Marseille attractions like Museum of European and Mediterranean Civilisations can form part of a personalized travel itinerary.

Wow, what a monumental work of art the whole ensemble of the museum is itself! Several buildings, including historical monuments and brand new constitutions, passages, walks, panoramic views, little olive garden. Even if you won’t find an exposition for your taste, just wandering there or having a drink at the restaurant, or just sitting enjoying the fantastic views is a wonderful experience! (like an esthetic oasis in the middle of dirty Marseille)

The staff was very nice. Everything inside is easily accessible with a stroller. The kids playroom is from 4 years of age. Unfortunate. The exhibitions were really nice and detailed and interesting! They write everything also in english. It worth a visit for sure.
