Enter the dreamlike world of fantasy that combines the mechanical universe of Leonardo da Vinci and the imaginary worlds of Jules Verne at Les Machines de L'ile. This fantastic project is an absolute must, especially if you have children. Gigantic machines take you on a steampunk journey through time using artistry and magic--some of these mechanical marvels even take you on the ride of a lifetime. Hop on The Great Elephant, a mechanical mammal made from 45 tons of steel and wood, for a 45-minute walk around the grounds. Then, control the movements of the machines at the Marine Worlds Carousel. This massive 360-degree theater on three levels displays mechanical marine creatures--many of which you and your kids can control. The ship sets sail 5 m (16 ft) above the seabed, then plunges you virtually into the depths, where wild creatures like deep-sea lanternfish light your way. • Very disappointed that besides the posters, there was nothing to cater for non-French speaking visitors. All the exhibitions were presented only in French. Not international tourist friendly. M

  • It's neat and has a lot of interesting machines to see. The machines as art are really amazing. They're intricately designed and really quite beautiful. They do shows of the machines that are displayed in the gallery, then a walk up the terrace to see the workshop and a short movie, and finally a walk along a metal tree lined with plants. 8.50 to see the gallery, 8.50 to ride the elephant, 8.50 to ride the carousel. The gallery ticket and elephant ticket allow you to go up to the terrace as well. With that said the machines movements and actions are all quite simple so don't expect any great feats or robotics.
  • Amazing place. Especially to bring kids there. Lots of fun for everyone. Tickets can be but at the door or there are some slots available on line. Place is still growing so expect more in near future. Highly recommended place to see in Nantes
