The Musee Matisse is located in the quieter part of the city of Nice but easily reached by public transport. It's located next to a park and the museum of archaeology. The building is impressive...

To Henri Matisse I give 5 stars. To the Henri Matisse's museum I give it 3. The museum is in a very nice location uphill and there's a lovely atmosphere on the outside. On the inside the people who would welcome you speak little to no English so we had to gesture and half-speak french our way in. More than half of the captions underneath or on the side of the stunning sculptures and paintings were in French only, so it became pretty exhausting very soon for us - Italian speakers - to understand what we were looking at. There were only a few qr codes here and there which took you to English audios describing the artworks and their history but there were just too little to appreciate the virtual guide. The setting is very nice and I liked the simplicity yet elegance of the interior design and furniture; I found this museum to be beautiful overall, I just can't get over how much of an outsider I felt just for not speaking French. I don't think there ever was a time I went to an Italian public museum and found Italian-only descriptions.

Very well done. Dedicated to Matisse, with contemporary exhibition (s). Don't forget to visit the Chagall museum, not far away..(which I actually prefer ; if you have time for only one of these two , do the Chagall..). The Roman Baths excavation next door to the Matisse is a great place for a picnic if the Cimiez Parc is crowded with kids & dogs....
