Dordogne River runs along the flanks of Puy de Sancy in the mountains of Auvergne above the town of Mont-Dore. Created from the confluence of two small torrents, the Dore and the Dogne, the river flows generally west about 500 km (311 mi) through the Limousin and Périgord regions before emptying into the Gironde, its common estuary with the Garonne, north of Bordeaux.
