Located in the Île de la Cité in central Paris, Palais de Justice de Paris is built on the site of the former royal palace of Saint Louis, of which the Sainte Chapelle remains, and the justice of the state has been dispensed at this site since medieval times. From the 16th century to the French Revolution, this was the seat of the Parlement de Paris. At Palais de Justice de Paris, you can also see the ancient structure of the Conciergerie, a former prison, now a museum, where Marie Antoinette was imprisoned before being executed on the guillotine.
If you’re interested in more history, check out the Chambre Dorée, the place where the revolutionary tribunal pronounced the death sentence on Marie-Antoinette in 1793. See Palais de Justice de Paris and all Paris has to offer by arranging your trip with our Paris trip itinerary planning tool.

This building has ornate games and one would think it is the entrance to Sainte-Chappelle but it is not -- the chapel is next door and security guards will politely point you in the right direction...

It's been cleaned up so it looks better. But I still resent the destruction of 1/3 of Place Dauphine to create this court building. Most of the court activity has moved to another part of the city.

There's nothing much to see except this beautiful gate of the palace, but the neighborhood is amazing.

Do not confuse this place with the chapel beside it, Sainte Chappelle, which houses the beautiful stained glass windows. This is primarily a place of legitimate legal business, though some guided tours are offered. You can stop for a quick look from the outside while visiting Sainte Chappelle.
