Pantheon is the secular burial place of many notable people who helped to form the history and identity of France, such as Voltaire, Victor Hugo, Jean-Jacques Rousseau, and Marie Curie. Built from 1764 to 1790, this monument is a masterpiece by the famous architect Soufflot, who built it as a church in dedication to St. Genevieve. This early example of neoclassical architecture has a façade modeled on the Pantheon in Rome, topped by a dome that owes some of its character to Bramante's "Tempietto." From the outside, marvel at the massive portico of Corinthian columns as well as the triple dome. Inside, you can't help but to notice the coffered inner dome covered with an ornately painted fresco by Antoine Gros, called "The Apotheosis of Saint Genevieve." • NO is the only answer given to us for every request we put forth to these security guards who are neither French nor Parisians. A prison guard might have better courtesy than guards of thisbile place.

  • For EU citizens under 25 age you get free entry. But make sure you have your passport. Lovely place. Amazing architecture and full of history. Benches everywhere, so you can have a seat and enjoy. The view from the top is beautiful! One of best memories from my Paris trip!
  • Beautiful Architecture at its best, this place is stunning! There is no queue to get in. We weren't fit enough to do the 200 winding stairs to the viewing platform but would have liked to! Go to the Crypt in the basement, Marie Curie, lays to rest there as well as yet more splendid architecture.
