Create an itinerary including Champagne G.H. Martel & Co
Tour the intimate family atmosphere of Champagne G.H. Martel & Co with its beautiful medieval chalk cellars hollowed out between the forth and 15th centuries. Discover historic and modern techniques in the champagne eco-museum, as well as the 18th century buildings at this winery that began in 1869.

You may recognize the iconic label with an eagle at the top on their signature Brut Prestige wine bottle with 40 percent Chardonnay, 55 percent Pinot Noir, and 5 percent Pinot Meunier grape varieties, while the award-winning Victoire Brut Premiere Cru has 70 percent Chardonnay and 30 percent Pinot Noir grapes.

A friendly guide who speaks English will lead your tour of the Gallo-Roman "crayères" (chalk cellars) that go down to a depth of up to 22 m (72 ft). The on-site museum displays a unique collection of machines and tools from the Champagne region that were used for planting and maintaining the vineyards. Remember to bring a warm sweater, the caves are chilly because the best champagnes become bubbly at a cool 11 C (51.8 F). Reservations recommended, not required. • Quite rude sales person who couldn't be bothered as he had "a lot of work to do." I was the only one in the shop though was willing to help others. There are plenty of other champagne houses to try.
  • We arrived at Reception and asked if we could do a tasting. The Receptionist said we could but we had missed the cellar tour so could only do the tasting for 21€ per person. She directed us to the waiting area and told us someone would be there shortly to give us our three glasses of champagne. We sat and waited and after 15 minutes, asked her where the person was. 10 minutes later, the sommelier arrived… Along with an entire tour group. He did the champagne tasting - all in French. Now, I know we were in France, but most places offer tastings in different languages. The Receptionist knew we spoke English (and even asked where we were from!) but failed to mention anything about the tasting being 1) part of a large group and 2) completely in French. Dispute the unprofessionalism of the Receptionist and the disorganised set up of the place, the champagne was good.
