Trip Planner: Europe / France / Normandy / Haute-Normandie / Seine-Maritime / Rouen / Eglise Sainte-Jeanne-d'Arc
In the center of the Place du Vieux Marché, the site of Joan of Ark's pyre, is Eglise Sainte-Jeanne-d'Arc. This is a large, modern structure, which dominates the square. The form of the building represents an upturned Viking boat and fish shape. For Eglise Sainte-Jeanne-d'Arc and beyond, use our Rouen itinerary maker site to get the most from your Rouen vacation.

Walk around the old marketplaces where the Saint, Jean d’Arc was sacrificed. It is soaked in human emotions, and the simple interior of the Church reflects the humanity of the sacrifice

One of my favorite churches in the world. This place has a soul! A modern architecture full of symbols: the Renaissance stained glass from the old church destroyed during WW2, the nave shaped like an inverted boat hull, the fish shades. Even if you don’t believe in the myth of Joan of Arc, you are touched by this building.
OK, this is the historic spot where Joan the Arc was burned at the stake, but in my humble opinion they could choose another architectural style. Joan the Arc Church is an ultra modern church made of concrete, glass and wood standing in the middle of a medieval square with half timbered houses and cobbled streets all around. It looks like an UFO crashed on the square. Adding more to its quirky design is the fact that under the other part of the same roof is a marketplace with fish, meats, fruits and vegetables stalls. That's in fact the old market (Vieux Marche) from medieval era. Interior is very nice, also modern, and I saw such Churches in Berlin, Helsinki, Rio,..etc, but here such design just doesn't fit
