Bibracte
Bibracte keeps you and your family busy with three attractions in one: the archaeological site, the museum of Celtic civilization, and the research center. Relive history at the peak that contained the largest and most important hill fort in Gaul at the end of the Iron Age. An audio commentary in English guides you through the exhibits and interesting recreations of key buildings, such as the blacksmiths shop and a typical house interior. Archaeologists continue to work at the site and you can watch them dig for cultural and biological treasures. A visit to Bibracte represents just the start of the adventure when you use our Saint-Leger-sous-Beuvray itinerary app to plot your vacation.

Excellent Gallo-Roman historical site still under excavation. 2 hour guided tour in French well worth while as guides very knowledgeable and open to questions. Can also visit on your own with descriptive panels on key spots. Definitely recommend bus ride up as 6 km to top. You don't miss the distance when visiting on way back down. Bus down again from gateway to archealogical site or 20 minute walk through the woods (1km) back to car park. Great panorama view from top of mountain when weather good. Be equipped for quick weather change on hill top (cloudy, rain, cold) and for walking on muddy, slippery trails. Modern museum at entrance is very well laid out with interesting descriptions of finds from the site plus explanations of how site was built in French, English and German. Great site for bigger kids already learning about history of Gauls, Celts and Romans.

Well made museum. Bus up hill, good walk downhill with chances to view the archaeological sites.
