Saumur is a famous historic town known for its locally grown mushrooms and for their production of a number of regional wines and celebrated Combier liqueurs. The small city in the Maine-et-Loire department has architectural character due to its historic building construction almost exclusively made with beautiful, but fragile, Tuffeau stone. The town itself is relatively quiet and low-key with an array of boutique shops and winding cobbled streets.
