The Pont Flavien (English: Flavian Bridge) is a Roman bridge across the River Touloubre in Saint-Chamas, Bouches-du-Rhône department, southern France. The single-arch crossing, which was built from limestone, was on a Roman road - the Via Julia Augusta - between Placentia, Italy and Arles. It is the only surviving example of a Roman bridge bounded by triumphal arches from the Augustan period, although similar bridges probably existed elsewhere, as indicated by portrayals on coins of the late 1st century BC.

  • Beautiful 2000 year old roman bridge still standing. A bit lost in the field but very impressive part of a roman Highway. Free to visit. Look how the road has been won out by the tracks of carriages.

  • ... Well, unless you are absolutely/totally NOT into Roman history, architecture, and remains. Then, I suppose, you'd be forgiven. This beautiful little 1st-century BC bridge on the Via Julia...

  • A roman Bridge in the countryside. Maybe not worth a longer detour if you're not in to bridges... but if you are close by and want to stretch you legs a bit or have a short break it's well worth a visit.
  • Fabulous Roman bridge just sitting there begging for a visit. It is so delightful to randomly come across Roman bridges, arcs, fountains, and walls all over Provence. This bridge is in great shape. We particularly loved the ancient wagon ruts in the road’s rock slabs. Worth bringing a picnic and sitting by the water under the bridge.
