A half-Gothic, half-Renaissance historical building, Museum Œuvre Notre-Dame houses a large and renowned collection of medieval and Renaissance Upper Rhenish art from the early Middle Ages until 1681. The museum is famous for its rich collection from the Germanic Rhenish territories, including original sculptures, stained-glass windows, architectural fragments, and Strasbourg Cathedral building plans. There's a considerable collection of Old Master paintings by Peter Hemmel von Andlau, Niclas Gerhaert van Leyden, Ivo Strigel, Konrad Witz, and Sebastian Stoskopff, and a masterpiece by Volmar Keller: "Portrait du Chanoine Ambrosius." A chance to be able to inspect and appreciate the fine medieval sculpture on the kind of figures placed in and around the Cathedral, along with many other fine pieces.

This museum is an enjoyable experience and it complements a visit to the cathedral. It has a wide variety of exhibits all housed in a cool historic building. One thing I especially liked was the views of the cathedral that you get in an outside corridor and through the windows.

Great museum with a varied range of items that explore the history of the cathedral and themes around it. It’s very high tech, employing methods like VR and animated paintings, sculptures, and explanations. A friendly museum staff also helped us with the equipment to ensure that we got the best experience. There are English translations for most of the information signs, and the museum path is generally well planned out. Well worth a visit, especially if you plan on going to the cathedral as well.
