The central pavilion tower of Chateau de Valencay is the crowning jewel of Renaissance architecture in France. Empire styles of Louis XVI combine with Regency styles to create a harmonious overall style of luxury. At Emperor Napoleon's request, the builder Talleyrand built the "Little Theater" designed to entertain the Princess of Spain. Stroll along with an English-speaking tour guide who will finish your trip in the West Wing basement where the old kitchen, pantry, and cellar still exist. • Impressive Château (but not among the first to visit in the Loire valley area) and interesting history. However, it is overpriced to visit, especially for children. While many châteaux in the region allow free entry for kids under 10, this one charges for kids as young as 4. Children over 6 cost 11.50€! The grounds and gardens were in rough shape when we visited (likely in part due to lack of rain). A few of the kids attractions were also closed (such as the hedge maze) which made the cost of entry even less reasonable.
  • Very informative free audio guide and ths allows you to go at your own pace. The rooms were beautiful and the gardens wonderful. Just the right size for a half day visit and parking nearby for motorhome was excellent. Thanks to the tourists office, brilliant.
