Also considered a basilica, Cathedrale Saint Pierre is the seat of the Bishops of Vannes. The present neo-Gothic building was erected on the site of the former Romanesque cathedral. Its construction extends from the 15th to the 19th centuries, but the Romanesque bell tower dates back to the 13th century. The cathedral has retained tombs dating back to the 17th century, and the tombs of two bishops are in the crypt under the choir. The most remarkable item is a 12th century box made of wood and covered with painted parchment decorated with scenes of daily life.
