Considered a Notable Garden of France by the French Ministry of Culture, Les Jardins de Marqueyssac has 150,000 boxwood trees carved in groups of rounded shapes, such as flocks of sheep. Stroll through the romantic 19th-century garden along 5 km (3 mi) of walks, and view rustic structures, water descending from the belvedere and ending in a cascade, and much more. The garden is part of the 17th-century Château de Marqueyssac, built on cliffs overlooking the Dordogne Valley and continually updated until the second half of the 20th century when it was rarely occupied. Beginning in 1996, owner Kleber Rossillon restored the gardens and opened them to the public. Absolutely fantastic !!! We ate a very nice salad on arrival, with spectacular views of Chateau Beynac. The restaurant offers reasonably priced food and drink, and stays open beyond the typical hours for the region. Following that, we had a very tranquil walk. A feast for the eyes, and soul. Our visit was in late February, on a beautiful day. Can recommend thoroughly if you enjoy fresh air, nature, activities for children, and grown ups alike ! It wasn't the first time I'd been, and it certainly won't be the last.

Magnificent one-of-a-kind garden: very original design, expansive and impeccably maintained (despite many visitors). What impressed me the most are the sandstone cliffs marking a boundary of the garden and making a great contrast to the green hedges. Make sure to go on a clear day to take in the 360° views and to stay long enough as the garden is very large. The via ferrata looks like a lot of fun but I could not go as my son was too young (minimum age is 8 and they are strict).
