Create an itinerary including East Side Gallery
To see some truly one-of-a-kind art, take a stroll along East Side Gallery. This 1.3 km (0.8 mi) long stretch of the Berlin Wall is near the center of the city. One of the largest remaining portions of the former border between East and West Germany, this now serves as an international memorial of freedom. You'll see that the remains of the wall are painted with provocative and thought-provoking murals, political and otherwise. This open-air art gallery is a work in progress, so you'll find that creative local artists constantly add new images. Stop by to have your picture taken in front of a living piece of history. It couldn't be easier to arrange your visit to East Side Gallery and many more Berlin attractions: make an itinerary online using Inspirock's Berlin travel route builder site.

  • Sure, some of the paintings are not original any more and some of the surroundings are a bit doggy, but it's an amazing opportunity to capture the spirit that was going on at the time of the reunion.....  more

  • One of the most iconic places in Berlin with wall art decorating the previous wall. The painted panels have diverse topics - from Save earth now to political comment to walled life. A part of the wall is not fully visible as construction is going around it but there’s plenty to see and admire.
  • I had the privilege of visiting my and my mother’s family in Berlin late August - early September 2017. The paintings are moving and fascinating. My mother was a WW II war-bride, who married my father, an American serviceman with the US Army. My dearest brother was born in Berlin in the year 1946. This was one of the magical places we visited during our visit. I look forward to returning to visit this open air East Side Gallery to again enjoy the historical meets present-day artistry here, in addition to visiting many other interesting sites and enjoying the company of my precious family.
