Covering more than 210 hectares (520 acres) through the center of the city, Großer Tiergarten is one of Germany's largest urban parks. Its beginnings trace back to the 16th century, when the area was designated as a royal hunting zone. Later, as the city expanded and the hunting grounds shrank, the park became a popular relaxation area for the general public. Today, the Spree river and a number of important architectural landmarks border the sprawling park grounds. Look in the middle of the park for a large square with a tall column that the locals the Great Star. It was placed here in 1864 to celebrate Prussia's victory over Denmark. Stop by the park to take a stroll, picnic, cycle, jog, or play soccer with the local crowd. Beautiful garden/ park to walk around in. I must have walked at least 5 km in and around the park and saw ponds, bridges, monuments, beautiful autumn colours and happy bouncing dogs playing fetch. Brings sheer joy to your heart. And all of it is free. But bring some cash/ spare change in case there's someone singing to make some money and you'd like to donate. You can't hear the traffic even though it's in the city. Loved this place.

One of the best parks I've been to, both in terms of infrastructure and wilderness. Has a lot of passages, monuments, rose gardens, ducks, a river, trees, even small islands. I'd love to take another walk when the weather is fine, but even in the rainy day I visited I still loved it. Great place to play Pokémon Go, too. Saw a stork flying through above the river. Seems well maintained and a great place for picnic.
