Offering visitors a rare look into the ancient world, Pergamonmuseum attracts nearly 2 million people each year, making it the most-visited museum in Germany. It features an extensive collection of ancient Greek, Middle-Eastern, and Islamic art and architecture. Located on Museum Island in the heart of the city, this site was designed by architect Alfred Messel and built from 1910 to 1930. The museum contains reconstructed monumental buildings from around the world, including the giant Ishtar Gate and the Market Gate of Miletus. Be sure to see the Pergamon Altar, a massive marble shrine after which the museum is named. Save time by booking your tickets online. Pick up a free audio guide at the entrance. There genuinely are no words to describe some of the pieces in here. Four thousand years of history has done nothing to dampen the majesty of some of the pieces. A little part of me does wonder about the misappropriation of another culture's historical legacy and whether there pieces really belong thousands of km from where they were brought forth but that aside this place is an absolute must see!

Museum is fantastic. But don't be fooled when reading the website. "Stay as long as you like" = until 6pm when we kick you out but are happy to sell you a full price 5pm time ticket. Please remove that line from your website. I wouldn't have booked that slot had I known.
