Marvel at the beautiful architectural design of King Ludwig II's Schloss Linderhof, the only residence he lived to see completed. Originally a historic hunting lodge, the 19th-century palace is set in the Graswang valley. It features historic landscaped gardens with fountains, monuments, and an artificial grotto. Tour the royal palace to admire the famous Hall of Mirrors and Versailles-inspired grand staircase. You can venture outside to take in the beautiful Rococo-influenced exterior of the building. Be sure to wear sturdy shoes for wandering the 50 hectares (125 acres) of palace gardens. Take a look at our Ettal route builder website to schedule your visit to Schloss Linderhof and learn about what else to see and do during your holiday.

  • We are so glad we put this on our trip schedule. The castle itself is small, but the grounds and views are grand! What a fantastic surprise!

  • Huge palace with dozens of not hundreds of ornately decorated rooms. Nice free audio tour. The place is a typical stately home and had very little by way of museum exhibits. One amazing room full of original and replica busts of Roman emperors etc, the highlight of our tour. After an hour we were looking for the quickest exit, but a pleasant hour
  • This palace deserves a place near the top of your list if you're anywhere nearby. Breathtaking views and an immaculately maintained (finished) palace for King Ludwig II, bring the past into the present for an overall wonderful experience for all ages. You would be missing out to only tour the palace as the grounds are just as magnificent. Be prepared to walk a little, as the castle grounds are about 1 Km away from the parking lot. A full walk around can be 3-4 Km Parking is €3 for a standard car and up to €9 for a tour bus.
