One of the world's elite parks, Zoo Leipzig opened in 1878 and now has nearly 850 different animal species. The zoo prides itself on its collection of big cats and its enormously successful breeding program. The internationally renowned enclosures and exhibits resemble real, wild habitats. Wind your way through six different regions: the Founder's Garden, Gondwanaland, Asia, Pongoland, Africa, and South America. Be sure to wear comfortable walking shoes. The 22.7 hectare (56 acre) zoo's efforts toward authenticity mean the walking paths are often made of sand or soil. I've been in Zoo Berlin years ago but I can say that Zoo Leipzig has better atmosphere and landscape where you can truly feel yourself in Africa. A beautiful park with variety of plants, trees, a nice river where you can have a short trip (€1,5), different animals. There is tropical dome and quite big playground for the kids. It's easy to reach to the Zoo by trams. Must see in Leipzig.
This fantastic Zoo is a must for families visiting LE! You can easily spend an entire day here. Ideally visit on a sunny day (but the zoo has also numerous great indoor compounds, so even good for a rainy day). Has playgrounds and restaurants. Consider pre-booking (on sunny weekend days it can be sold out).
