Set in a mansion belonging to the influential Bekanis family, Benaki Museum houses an impressive collection of artifacts reflecting Greek history and culture. Though primarily concerned with Greece, the museum explores and celebrates the many foreign influences that have enriched the country. Admire prehistoric pottery, Byzantine iconography, 17th century embroidery, and heirlooms of influential Greek figures. Make sure to stop by the on-site restaurant. Located on the top floor, it offers superb views of central Athens. With our online itinerary creator, Athens attractions like Benaki Museum can be center stage of your vacation plans, and you can find out about other attractions like it, unlike it, near it, and miles away.

Pretty good museum, based on private collections of collectors. An interesting collection of jewelry, a lot of interesting ceramics. And there is even a collection of traditional Greek clothes. And as a bonus, a nice cafe with a roof terrace, with amazingly delicious cakes and coffee.

A museum centred around Greek history and culture from ancient years to today. Entrance fee could be argued to be a bit steep, but I consider the experience (approximately 3-4 hours to view things at a leisurely pace) to be well worth the cost. I found the ground floor with the ancient artifacts and jewellery to be the most interesting. There are numerous pieces within the main collection that the Louvre or British Museum would wish they could have. Which is to say that if you're in Athens and wish to spend a few hours at a museum, the Benaki is an excellent choice.
