Venetians built this fortress in two levels between 1576 and 1645 using stone from nearly 2,000 houses and churches. Notice the winged Lion of St. Mark on the Royal Gate and its two bastions, remarkable examples of defensive architecture. A stone building from the British rule houses a museum of ceramic art as well as a small cafe. Interesting historical landmark which provides a very nice top view of the old town of Corfu. There's no entrance fee. You can enter from the north side, after climbing some steps from the old town. A very decent toilet is available next to the entrance.

While it's nice to walk around, there are no signs or anything explaining the history of it which would have been nice. View is good though of Corfu town
