Commissioned by Austrian Empress Elisabeth of Bavaria as a summer holiday home, Achilleion Museum was also home to Kaiser Wilhelm II. After her son died, Elisabeth decided to design a palace in Corfu, a favorite holiday destination. In 1890, the palace was built with a focus on the mythical hero, Achilles. Enter through the manicured gardens, which are dotted with statues representing Zeus and Hera. Inside the palace, you're greeted by a portrait of the tormented empress. You can explore her room, which is filled with its original artwork. The kaiser, who bought the home after the empress’s death, is represented in a room featuring his personal items, including his portrait and other paintings. For travelers who use our online itinerary creator, Gastouri holidays become easier to arrange, with trips to the Achilleion Museum and other attractions mapped out and timetabled.

Beautiful summer palace built for Empress Elisabeth of Austria in honor and admiration to Achilles. Entrance for the garden is 5€/person. At the moment the museum is closed, so you can only enjoy the garden, which is stunning 🤩.

Visited in 2019. Got the bus from Corfu town to the palace. Only a short walk to the ticket office. Spent a couple of hours looking around the house and gardens. Very enjoyable visit and great views from the gardens. Highly recommended. Didn't have too long to wait for a bus back to Corfu town.
