Housing a trove of archeological treasures, National Museum of Ireland - Archaeology displays items unearthed in Ireland as well as items from ancient Egyptian and Roman relics. The museum building, a major tourist attraction in and of itself, features a colonnaded entrance opening into a rotunda, designed to pay homage to ancient Roman architecture. Inside you can explore an extensive collection of prehistorical gold artifacts and metal objects from the Celtic Iron Age. Be sure to visit the second-floor galleries, chronicling the four centuries of Viking rule over Dublin. To discover the exhibits at your own pace and focus on areas most suited to your interests, pick up a floor plan at the entrance, or check online for a free downloadable brochure. Only the ground floor is wheelchair accessible. Closed on Mondays ( including Bank Holidays, Good Friday, and Christmas Day). • There is A LOT to see in this museum, so be preapred to spend a couple of hours! The peat presevred bodies were a particualr highlight - if slightly gruesome!

  • We thorougly enjoyed our time at the arhaeology museum! So much history in one place and the installations and displays were very well placed and flowed easily from one to another. So much insight...

  • The bog bodies exhibit (preserved human remains, some centuries old) was respectful and impactful. Would recommend to adults but not children. The artifacts, especially those arranged in the treasury which traced the history of Ireland from Pagan to Christian, were breathtaking.
  • What a great museum! Really easy to book online and free to get in. Loads to see from the stone age onwards and, my personal favourite, several bog bodies and other items found in the peat bogs in Ireland. Our children, 6 and 9, also enjoyed looking at the items on display - lots to see and not much to read so perfect in their eyes! There were a couple of areas closed when we went but still managed to spend just over an hour and a half before the children had 'seen it all' and needed cake.
