Home to the same family for nearly eight centuries, Malahide Castle sits just a few minutes north of the capital city, easily accessible by car or public bus. The estate dates back to the 12th century, when Richard Talbot (a knight serving King Henry II) received these lands as part of a royal grant. Talbot's descendants lived here until 1976, expanding and modifying the original structure over the centuries. Take a guided tour to see the interior of the castle, noted for its Talbot family portraits and decorative carvings. The surrounding parkland also contains several popular attractions, including a museum housing a large collection of antique dolls and toys. Under renovation, cannot see all that you might like. That being said, our tour guide was engaging without giving a lecture and was truly enthusiastic about the castle. Wonderful tour!

Excellent guided tour, informative, clearly spoken guide with a nice sense of humour. Gardens are beautiful. The added bonus of an Easter trail, this week, using a paper map and puzzle as well as an online quiz made it attractive to children with various interests.

Hard to put up pictures without getting other children Etc in the photo, but this place has it all for a family day out. The grounds are kept so well, you can picnic on the lawn in front of the castle. There is a coffee shop on site, a fantastic playground and a little train that goes in to Malahide town and back around to the park.
