Remains of an old Byzantine church dating back to the fourth century prove that Christians have been commemorating this site for over 1,600 years. Today, a humble Roman Catholic church sits on top of the hill, and it is here that Pope John Paul II celebrated mass in March of 2000.     Beautiful views with a beautiful church. We were 50 members on a Holy Land tour and conducted Mass in one of the outdoor available places to do so. Definitely a must-do on a Holy Land tour!

    This is a beautiful place to visit, however, some parts can be crowded (church) and bottlenecks form in places near the entry and exit. Dozens of tour buses were here.
